With the garden as its centerpiece, J's Garden features a glass greenhouse that divides the space. The lattice glass windows at the entrance extend to the ceiling, allowing natural light to infiltrate the interior and creating an interactive view with the outside world. The office area is also enclosed in a glass frame, providing a quiet space for contemplation amidst the bustling public space.
The design of J's Garden goes beyond physical separation. The use of semi-penetrating design and recursive line planning allows for seamless transitions between the baking classroom and the hair salon. This unique feature not only provides physical flexibility but also offers visitors the opportunity to experience two completely different lifestyles in one space.
When approaching this project, the design team faced the challenge of integrating two distinct industries into one cohesive space. However, through communication with the clients, they discovered a shared desire to create a place where people could interact and connect. This led to the concept of a shared space, where joy, life, and experiences could be shared bit by bit.
J's Garden is located in Taipei, Taiwan, and was completed in December 2017. The design team, consisting of Chen Sheng-Yuan, Chang Yen-Chen, and Huang Tzu-Ting, meticulously planned and executed the project, overcoming the challenges of blending two different businesses and creating a harmonious environment.
This innovative design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity. J's Garden was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that showcase outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
J's Garden is a testament to the power of design to create unique and inspiring spaces. By breaking down barriers and fostering interaction, this commercial space has become a hub for creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
